Are you open to the possibility that some of your beliefs may not be based on reality? Are you willing to challenge them to ensure they align with the truth?

These 5 discernment questions are a powerful tool to help you do just that. By asking these questions, you can clarify what you believe, why you believe it, and the consequences of those beliefs.

The first question is all about clarifying terms and definitions.

It's crucial to ensure that you and the person you're speaking with have the same understanding of a particular word, concept, or story. Engaging in meaningful dialogue about a topic can be difficult without this clarity. By asking, "What do you mean by that?" you can ensure that you and the person you're speaking with are on the same page.

The second question is about evidence and sources.

It's easy to believe something because it aligns with our preconceived notions or what someone we trust tells us, but those beliefs may not be grounded in reality without evidence. By asking, "How do you know it is true?" you can evaluate the evidence behind a view.

The third question is all about consequences.

Beliefs have consequences, and it's important to consider what those consequences might be before fully committing to a particular idea. By asking, "How will you live your life if you believe it's true?" you can evaluate the practical implications of a specific belief.

The fourth question is all about humility and open-mindedness.

It's essential to remain open to new information and ideas by asking, "What if you are wrong?" Engaging in meaningful dialogue and learning from others can be difficult without considering the possibility that we may be wrong.

The fifth and final question is all about action.

Once we have evaluated a particular belief, we must consider what we want to do with that information. By asking, "What do you want to do with that information?" we can determine how to act on our beliefs and positively impact our world.

Challenging our beliefs can be a difficult but necessary task. We can evaluate our assumptions using the five discernment questions and ensure they align with truth. Clarifying terms, assessing evidence, considering consequences, remaining humble, and taking action can help us make informed decisions and positively impact the world.

So, are you ready to challenge your beliefs?
